How to migrate from one web hosting company to another?
If you've never had to change your web hosting provider you will think that this is useless article.
In this case it's better read it instead of losing your time and nerves if you ever need to do this.
Notice that the moving from one hosting company to another is not just copying files.
There is a lot of reasons why to choose another web host provider.
For example - better servers, better price, better conditions etc.
So let me start with the most important things that you need to have in mind when you move your website.
Do not inform your current webhosting provider for your intension to change his company.
It is much more secure to move your website and test it on the new server before refusing the services of your current provider.
Copying the files.
If your website is not so big you can just copy the files as usual.
In case you have a lot of files (even if they are small) this action can take a time like forever. And if you have any problems with the internet connection during the downloading of files... it's better not to understand what a mess can become.
So you can use your Cpanel (or whatever you have) to make an archive of your root directory. This is server process so you will not care about anything. When this proccess is done you just have to download this file on your computer and it is done.
The download/upoload speed of one file can not be compared to the speed of doing the same action with a lot of files.
You have to be sure that all the software used by your website is installed on server of the new hosting company.
And it is not only the installation. You have to chech the versions of everything you need (PHP, MySQL and so on).
It can be a problem even if the new hosting provider has newer versions. In this case you will understand what a depricated function means...
All of these "small" issues can take you more time than you can imagine.
There is a lot of other things that I will leave for now and write them in another article.
But you must have this in mind and decide does it worth to change your hos company for a few coins.
